BURNSVILLE, MN (MNN) – Authorities continue to investigate a shooting incident that left three first responders dead in Burnsville early Sunday morning.
The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association says two officers with the Burnsville Police Department and one firefighter were shot and killed while responding to a domestic abuse call for assistance. Another officer was wounded.
Minnesota B-C-A Superintendent Drew Evans says it happened when an armed man was barricaded inside a home with family members that included seven children and at one point opened fire on the officers.
The victims were identified as 27-year-old Police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and 40-year-old SWAT paramedic Adam Finseth.
Sergeant Adam Medlicott was also shot but is expected to survive.
Evans says the suspect was found dead in the home several hours later and all the kids got out safely.
