THOMSON TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – A 62 year old Duluth man was taken into custody Sunday night following an incident in Thomson Township.
According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect had arrived at an address on the Erickson Road to retrieve personal property and pointed what was described as a sawed off shotgun at the resident there.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man had walked away and was thought to be in the nearby woods or inside one of the structures on the property.
Assisting in the search for the suspect were the Cloquet and Fond du Lac Police, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department and the Duluth Police Emergency Response Team. Neighbors in the immediate area were contacted and advised to shelter in place during the search.
About four hours later, the suspect was located in the woods and taken into custody on charges of 2nd degree assault. He was taken to a hospital in Duluth for a medical evaluation and will then be held in the Carlton County Jail.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
