DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Duluth firefighters were called to a fuel transfer facility at West Superior Street and Carlton Street when a mostly empty 17,000 gallon tank that was being emptied exploded.
One of the two people doing the final fuel removal from the Superior Fuel Company tank early on Monday afternoon was injured and taken to a hospital.
Duluth Police blocked traffic in the area but no evacuations were needed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and used water and foam to cool two other tanks that were close to the tank that exploded.
The Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the incident.
