DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A section of the Munger State Trail that has been closed since November re-opens to the public on Wednesday.
The area where the trail intersects with Knowlton Creek has been restored to enhance the stream’s stability and its capacity to handle extreme high and low flow conditions.
Prior to the project the creek flow and access was hindered by a narrow box culvert and high earthen embankment.
The culvert was replaced by a 100 foot long steel truss bridge which will better support fish movement and natural stream functions.
The newly designed area also improves recreational connections to the creek for fishing, birding and photography.
