VIRGINIA, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Regional Landfill in Virginia has started accepting garbage from the Duluth area in addition to four neighboring counties.
The garbage from Resource Renew (WLSSD), Carlton, Lake and Cook Counties had been using the Moccasin Mike landfill in Superior which has now closed.
Koochiching County has also begun using the landfill in a separate agreement.
The Regional Landfill has been in operation and serving most of St. Louis County since 1993. With the addition of the new clients, the landfill expects to double the amount of garbage it handles and will remain operational well into the future.
St. Louis County is also working to develop a new solid waste facility in Canyon
